Stray bullet hit bed through roof on Diwali at Imphal

Imphal: Firing gun shots during this Diwali was witnessed in Imphal when a bullet hit a bed passing through a galvanised roof and a ceiling of a house at Maibam Leikai Bokul Makhong.

The firing of bullets as celebration in the air has made people fear for unsafety even when inside the house.

The stray bullet hit the bed around 7.30 pm on Tuesday. The incident dent was occurred at the residence of Huidrom Dewan Singh, 36, son of late H Ibopishak Singh of Chingamakha Liwa Lambi Maibam Leikai Bokul Makhong.

Dewan said his family was planning for Diwali night out he was sitting on his bed and two children were near him. When they were about to leave the home he heard a blast sound on the roof top. He found a bullet hole on his mattress just below his pillow and a hole on the ceiling and galvanised roof. One bullet was found under his bed, he added.

Dewan said he could have been hit if he or anyone had laid on the bed.

He made a complaint at Singjamei police station on the same day.

A team of police that came for spot enquiry identified the bullet as of 9 mm pistol.

Dewan appealed the government to strrictly monitor before issuing gun licence as it could harm any innocent person if the gun licence holder misuses the gun.

He also appealed the gun licence holders not to fire their arms unnecessary as their negligence could lose a life as licence guns are meant for self defence not for firing during celebration.
