Manipur expects to have Cancer hospital by March next year

Imphal: Manipur government is targeting to inaugurate the Cancer Hospital by KARNIKOS at Porompat, Imphal East by March next year, chief minister N. Biren Singh said on Friday.

The hospital will, to an extent, lessen the hardships faced by people of the state in travelling outside the state for diagnosis and treatment of cancer, Biren said.

The chief minister inspected the ongoing works at the project sites of construction of Cancer hospital.

“It has been a long dream to establish a Cancer hospital in the state,” he said.

The hospital is being constructed on PPP model with the KARNIKOS Healthcare, an international organisation, Biren said. On its completion, it will be empanelled for CMHT, PMJAY and other government schemes, he added.

The chief minister also inspected construction of government staff quarters at New Checkon in the same district.

He said construction of a block at the government quarter complex at New Checkon will be completed by March next year. “We are also targeting to complete some more blocks and hand them over to the public before 2024”, he added.

​Earlier there were only single housing quarters, he stressed, adding that with loans from HUDCO, new building facilities which are G+6 buildings are being constructed at the site.

Once the complex is complete it will solve at least 70-80 percent of issues faced by government officials due to lack of housing quarters, Biren said.

The chief minister was accompanied by minister L. Susindro Meitei, chief secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, officials, etc., during the inspections.
