30 soap cases of Brown Sugar seized,l auto driver arrested
Imphal: In continuation of Manipur government’s War on Drugs campaign a team of Churachandpur district police seized 30 soap cases of suspected Brown Sugar weighing around 385 gm from a diesel auto rickshaw plying between district hospital, Churachandpur and Johar Phaicham along Tiddim Road at around 4.25 pm on Saturday.
Acting on an information that an unknown auto driver plying along the said route is transporting suspected contraband drugs in an auto rickshaw, a team of district police and some VDF personnel conducted checking at Koite village near an oil pump in presence of SDC, Tuibong. During checking one auto rickshaw nearing registration number MN04B-1463 was stop for checking. On checking, three black polythene bags were found under the seat of the driver, a police report said.
The driver identified himself as one Ngamminlal Touthang, 37, son of Thanghao Touthang of T Kannanphai village, Churachandpur district.
In presence of SDC, Tuibong, the police team instructed Ngamminlal to open the polythene bags. While opening the bag 30 soap cases containing 30 packets of suspected Brown Sugar ere detected. The suspected Brown Sugar was found to weigh 385 gm without the weight of plastic soap cases, the report said.
One mobile phone, one Aadhaar card in the name of Ngamminlal were seized.
Ngamminlal was arrested and seized the suspected Brown Sugar on the spot. The arrested person along with the seizure was taken to Churachandpur police station and a case has been registered under ND and PS Act for further investigation.
