Meiraba Luwang becomes BWF world rank 64, eyes for Olympics

Imphal: Manipur’s Maisnam Meiraba Luwang becomes BWF (Badminton World Federation) World rank No. 64 as announce by BWF on Tuesday.
The announcement came after he participated in BWF, Vietnam Open Open, 2022 International badminton Super Series 100 and BWF, Indonesia Master 2022 International badminton SUPER Series 100.
With this new achievement, he is aiming to qualify in the 2024 Olympics. He is further looking forward to represent India in coming BWF Bahrain International Challenge 2022, to be held from November 29 to December 4, Manama; Bahrai And Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Challenge 2022 to be need from December 7 to 11 at Dhaka, Bangladesh under BWF/Badminton Asia Confederation. Entry to two tournaments have been confirmed.
Meiraba has already been selected for TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) upto 2028 Olympic and he is the only Men’s Single athletes who has been selected from the north-east region of India, under the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and SAI.
TOPS is a flagship program of the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports which is an attempt to provide assistance to India’s top athletes. The scheme looks to add a premium to the preparations of these athletes so that they can win medals in the Olympics.The Scheme currently supports 104 Tops Core Group athletes across 13 sports disciplines and Hockey (M & W) teams and 269 Tops Development Group athletes across 12 sports disciplines.
