Two arrested with 3.564 kg Brown Sugar in Manipur


Imphal: A team of Singhat police station of Manipur seized 3.564 kg of suspected Brown Sugar and arrested two persons from a temporary check post near New Teikot, Churachandpur district on Wednesday late evening.

The drug dealers were identified as one Ngamkholal Guite, 40, son of Letkhopao of Mongjang village, Singngat; Mangmuanlian Hangluah, 46, son of late Goukholian of Buangmun village, Singngat, Churachandpur district.

The arrest of the duo and seizure of the drug came to effect the police team acted on an information received at around 7 pm that some people are going to transport contraband goods by using motorcycles on the Singngat- Suankuang road Churachandpur district.

The team of Singhat police station laid a temporary check post near New Teikot village. At around 8.30 pm two Kenbo bikes were intercepted and detained two persons for checking.

Two sacks being carried in the two bikes were checked and it was found that they had soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar. While checking the sack in presence of a executive magistrate and civil witness, a total of 297 soap cases weighing around 3.564 of suspected Brown Sugar were detected, a police report said.

The two persons were arrested and the two Kenbo bikes and two mobile phones were also seized at the spot.

A case has been registered at Singhat police station under ND and PS Act for further investigation, the report said.
