Awareness campaign on increasing needs of solar power is indispensable: Governor

Imphal: Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan has stressed the need to make aware to the people the importance of solar energy as an alternative for power generation in the country.
Ganesan was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of state level painting competition on energy conservation held today at City Convention Centre in Imphal.
He said, government is making relentless efforts to reduce power consumption by using solar power. Awareness campaign on increasing solar power is quite indispensable at this juncture. In case, the product of solar power is considerably increased, naturally the import of oil from other countries will significantly reduce which will obviously improve the economic standard of our country. Organising such competitions among the students will certainly have good impact in the minds of young students. Therefore, to inculcate thought on energy efficiency among school children, ministry of Power has taken an initiative and has been organizing painting competitions on Energy Conservation for the students since 2005, he added.
In order to create better appreciation and understanding of the need for energy conservation in the country, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power has already launched “National Awareness Campaign on Energy Conservation”. Such steps will bring better understanding on the subject and help in nurturing the innovative ideas to make India as energy sufficient nation on the global map, he said.
The governor distributed prizes to the winners in the competition. Three students each from Group A (Class IV-VI) and Group B (Class VII-X) were selected to participate in the nation level competition which will be held in New Delhi. Consolation prizes were also distributed to ten students each from the groups. Alfred Khaute, Additional Director, Education (S-Hills), S.N. Satyanarayan, Group General Manager, Loktak Hydro-Power Station, NHPC, General, Ranjit Thakur, General manager, NHPC, students attended the Ceremony which was organized by Loktak Hydro-Power Station, NHPC Limited.
