Meeting to empower ADC conducted

Imphal: With the objective to strengthen and empower the Autonomous District Council (ADC) by devolution of power an in-depth discussion Hill Area Committee (HAC) was conducted at Manipur Legislative Assembly, Imphal West on Wednesday.

Chairman of HAC Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu Gangmei told reporters at his office chamber that since the formation of district council in 1071-72 there was no certain empowerment. However, he suggested to strengthen the ADC with N. Biren Singh as chief minister of Manipur.

Discussion for empowering ADC is a lengthy process and the meeting need to be hold again, he added. The members of HAC discussed the 7th and 6th Amendments Acts to find ways for empowerment of ADC, he added.

Responding to media, he said there is need to follow the due process of delimitation. CSOs, ADC members and others need to be consulted. Delimitation process will take time however all the processes are going to be completed and government is also pressuring to submit the report. After the submission of the report ADC election will be conducted, he added.

Out of the 20 HAC members, 13 members attended the meeting.
