Minister Khemchand picks up garbage in Imphal city, says Don’t dispose garbage at inappropriate sites

Imphal: Manipur MAHUD minister Y. Khemchand led a mass cleanliness drive in Imphal city areas and picked up garbage with his hands giving a message to the people of self involvement in keeping the city clean.
The drive was conducted on Saturday ahead of the 10-day “Manipur Sangai Festival, 2022” that would begin on Monday.
Khemchand said many tourists from outside the state as well as foreign delegates will come to witness the Sangai Festival. People should keep the city clean to release a message.
The minister appealed the public who come for marketing at Khwairamband market and shop keepers in and around Khwairamband market especially Paona and Thangal markets not to dispose waste at inappropriate sites.
The cleanliness drive started from western side of Polo Ground and covered Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel areas.
The programme was jointly organised by Imphal Municipal Corporation and BJP Imphal Central District.
Imphal Municipal Corporation has been conducting publicity in the city to keep it clean. It appeals the shopkeepers at Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel not to stock garbage in front of their shops. The garbage should be taken out only when garbage collection vehicles arrive in front of shops. “Anyone found piling garbage in front of shop will be immediately fined a sum of Rs 500 as penalty,” the municipal corporation warned.
