Plastic bottle banks launched ahead of Manipur Sangai Festival

Imphal: Works and Youth Affairs and Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam launched Plastic Bottle Banks for collection of plastic bottles at Mini Secretariat complex in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Saturday.
The launching programme was organised by District Administration, Bishnupur in association with Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur Prant and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Bishnupur.
Govindas lauded the District Administration of Bishnupur for the noble initiative to curb littering and plastic pollution in the district. Stating that plastic wastes can cause devastating environmental impact to soil health, flora and fauna; and also threaten the human’s health, he urged all to minimise plastic pollution for the future generation and a healthier environment.
Deputy commissioner Bikram, informed that about 60 plastic bottle banks will be installed at strategic locations across the district including the venue for the upcoming Sangai Festival at Moirang Khunou.
The 10-day state tourism festival will begin on Monday with its main venue at Moirang Khunou. It will be celebrated across the state.
It may be mentioned that the plastic banks which are fabricated out of iron mesh are voluntarily donated by Ministers and MLAs of the district, Police, NYKS, several DLOs and Samvardhinee Nyas among others.
G. Sharma, Proprietor, Manipur Plastic Industries, Oinam Indira Devi, state head, Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur Prant, Dr Salam Dhanachandra, deputy director, NYK Bishnupur, district officials and staff, and functionaries of Samvardhinee Nyas attended the function.
