Power outage occurs at Hapta Kangjeibung venue of Manipur Sangai Festival

Imphal: Power was cut off on the second day of Manipur Sangai Fesitval, 2022 at Hapta Kangjeibung, one main festival venue at Imphal, as an electric transformer installed opposite to Palace Gate, adjacent to Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound broke down.
The transformer reportedly broke down at around 7.45pm on Tuesday at the transformer. Police personnel who were doing duty for the festival near the transformer reported that with immediate action of the police personnel the fire was extinguished with the help of 4-5 fire extinguishers cylinders.
There was power outage at the stalls installed at Hapta Kangjeibung while the fire was broke out at the transformer. No casualties have been reported.
Executive director Hijam Shantikumar who is also chief engineer of power department; concerned executive engineer also came to the spot to fix the issue.
Shantikumar told reporters that there is no fault in the electric transformer. But the fire was broke out due to imbalance power consumption from the transformer at the Sangai Festival venue. He said the transformer provide three phases and there were some faulty while transferring the power supply as a huge load of power was found provided from a single phase. The PWD officials are sorting out the matter inside Hapta Kangjeibung, he added.
While the fire broke out, formal function for cultural programme in connection with Sangai Festival was continuing at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre. Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N. Biren Singh and other MLAs were attending the function.
