Imphal market places shut to clean

Imphal: Shops and vendors in Imphal market places were shut down to clean up the market places on Thursday, the first day of Poinu month of Manipuri lunar calendar.

Earlier only the four traditional market places of Khwairamband Ima Keithel were shut down on every first day of every Manipuri lunar month.

However, Municipal Commissioner, Imphal Municipal Corporation issued a notification on November 10 that all the shops, vendors markets, including the four Ima Keithels at Kwairamband, Lamlong, Kongba, Singjamei, Kwakeithel, Tera Bazar, Lamphel Super Market, Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar shall remain closed on every Nongma Panba except on Sajibu Nongma Panba, Engen Nongma Panba and Hiyangei Nongma Panba for the purpose of carrying out social service for sweeping and cleaning their respective shops and markets.

Women vendors and members of organisations who earns their daily living at Khwairamband cleaned up the Ima Keithel premises by closing their daily services.

The market places wore a deserted look with the closure of shops and vendors. People who were not aware of the closure of shops left the market in desperate.
