Tribute paid to woman activists

Imphal:  Floral tributes were paid on the portraits of three women who took part in the movement to repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from the soil of Manipur and contributed in the services rendered for the welfare of the people.

The tribute was paid during the Silver jubilee celebration of women organisation—All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup, Imphal held at community hall of Yambem Mohori Memorial Youth Club, Uripok, Imphal West on Saturday.

The organisation was formed under the leadership of Ima (mother) Chaobi, a women leader on November 26, 1997.

It was formed with the objectives for the safeguards of people against the draconian law, Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958; to increase the bonding between the people of hills and valley and to fight against intoxicating elements including alcohol, drugs and others, assistant secretary of the women organisation, Sinam Nongleima Leima told reporters.

Since the formation of the organisation, it has been carrying various forms of agitation at the time of need for the welfare of people’s of Manipur. The organisation has also been supporting to various civil body organisation on different movements over various issues carried from time to time, she said.

The organisation will continue to perform various activities for the welfare of Manipur following the path of forefathers and Imas.

President of All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup, Yambem Momon Leima; president of All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Thokchom ongbi Ramani Leima; president of Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, Lourembam Nganbi Leima; vice president of United Committee Manipur (UCM), YK Dhiren; former chairman, Kangchup Chiru Women’s Sociaty, Achim Changa and president of Khundi Women;s Society, Solomi Pamei attended the function as dais members.
