Society today witnesses contribution from PWDs: Dingo

Imphal: With unstoppable efforts from Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and support from the society, the society has started witnessing similar abilities from PWDs as compared with normal persons.

This wasstated by social welfare minister Heikham Dingo Singh during state level observation of “International Day of Person With Disabilities, 2022” held at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, here on Saturday.

The programme observed under the theme “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world”.

The minister said PWDs are continuing to contribute for the society in various fields including art and culture, handicraft, sports and others like normal persons. More support and motivation from the society are needed for the PWDs as they are also a part of the society.

He said a mutual understanding is needed in the society and should respect each other.

With collective efforts from the officials of social welfare department, the grievances that the department had been facing is reduced,  he added and assured to make social welfare department a well organised department.

Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, MLA Usham Deben Singh appealed the society not to discriminate children with disabilities.

As a part of the function students from various PWD institutions demonstrated music, thang-ta, group dance and others.

Additional chief secretary, social welfare department, P. Vaiphei also attended the programme.
