Imphal: Assam Rifles continues to foil smuggling of drugs in Manipur in yet another operation on Sunday at Chandel district of Manipur by Modi Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South).
A special team of the battalion launched an operation based on a specific input regarding the move of contraband items at Libung in the district. “After carrying out specific search of the area and road side, the party discovered a bag concealed under thick foliage. On examining, it was found that the bag contained 15 soap cases of Brown sugar,” the Assam Rifles said in a press release on Monday.
The seized 15 soap cases contained approx 600 gm of Brown Sugar worth Rs 42 lakh. Seized contraband was handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further investigation, it added.
The release did not mention about the drug smuggler.
Chief minister N. Biren was called on by LT Gen R.C. Tiwari, GOC 3 Corps, and Maj Gen Rajan Shrawat IG AR (South) on the same day.
“Deliberated on the maintenance of law-and-order situation in the state, enhancing security measures, policies for combating anti-national elements, strengthening the War on Drugs as well as the step taken for keeping a healthy relationship between the security forces and the general public for ensuring overall peace in the state,” Biren writes on his Facebook wall.
