National seminar on NEP begins at Manipur University


Imphal: A 2-day national seminar on “NEP 2020 and Higher Education through Indian languages” has begun at Court Hall of Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal on Monday.

The programme was organised by Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (Department of Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Government of India and department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University.

Students can gain more knowledge when they learn more language and they should try to learn maximum language apart from English language, said vice-chancellor, Manipur University, professor Naorem Lokendra.

He said whether learning a foreign language or any language, when a student or a child learn more language then the ability to grasp knowledge can be increased. Priorities are given to those job candidates who know maximum languages as a skill component, he added.

Being English a global language, a student need to have good command in English language. Having a good command in English can get many opportunities not only in the foreign countries but also even when going to metropolitan cities of India, he said.

Many scholars of Manipur have been writing English to Manipuri dictionary. “A critical study is needed for those translated words so that people could understand the terminology used by the Manipuri forefathers as compared with the English language,” the vice-chancellor said.

Chairman of Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, ministry of education, professor Grish Nath Jha; and Dean, School of Humanities, Manipur University, professor Nahakpam Aruna Devi also attended the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
