Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial Invitation Tennis Tournament begins

Imphal: The 2nd edition of Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial Invitation Tennis Tournament, 2022 organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association (MATA) begins at the courts of IDTA, THAU, CYLC, Chingamathak and SEYO, Akampat on Wednesday.

The 5-day tournament offers a total cash prize money of Rs 2 lakh which is considered as one of the highest in local circuit.

About 75 players are competing in seven categories including men’s open single and doubles, 35+ single and doubles, 45+ single and doubles, 55+ doubles category. During the tourney, tennis players from Assam, Nagaland, Rajasthan, a Manipuri player settled in South Africa and various local players are exhibiting their might and skills.

Men’s Open: H. Bushan beat Bahadur Chetry (6-0, 6-1), Padmeshwar beat Nonginsana (6-0, 6-2), S. Bhicky beat Ashim Jyoti (6-1, 6-1), Kenny beat Shantakumar (6-1, 6-1), Leelenje beat Birchandra (6-4, 6-3), H. Shanker beat Devson (6-0, 6-0), Luching beat Ratul (6-2, 6-3) and Vilaser Khate beat Azad Khan (6-0, 6-0).

35+ Single: Bona got bye over Birla, Th. Chingkhei beat Ch. Chingkhei (6-2, 6-2), Santakumar beat Amarjeet (6-0, 6-0), Ribashkar beat Ratan (6-0, 6-1), Ch. Pritam bt Kondum (6-0, 6-4), Premjit bt Shitaljit (6-2, 6-1), Aken beat Shantikumar (6-3, 6-1), Suraj beat Jogen (6-0, 6-4).

35+ Doubles: Sanatomba and Kondum beatt Th. Chingkhei and Jogen by 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, Prakash and Premananda bt Amol and Ratan (6-0, 6-1), Korounganba and Domson bt Shitaljit and Birla (6-3, 6-1).

45+ Singles: Subhash beat Rakesh by 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), Kangjamba beat Keshorjit (6-3, 6-1), Shantanu S. beat Arun (6-4, 6-1), Dilip beat Aldrin (6-4, 6-4) and Manikanta beat Jayanta (6-0, 6-2).

45+ Doubles : Subhash and Rakesh got walk over. Manikanta and Kumarjit beatt Jayanta and Prakash.
