Biren extends greetings on ‘Nupin Lal’ day

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of Nupi Lal Numit (women revolution day) that is observed annually on December 12.

“On the occasion of Nupilal Numit, 2022, I join the people of Manipur in remembering the brave ‘Imas’ (mothers) of the state who had fought in the ‘Nupi Lal’ against the exploitive might of the British imperialists,” Biren said in his greetings.

“On December 12, 1939, our brave ‘Imas’ came to the forefront revolting against the British imperialists calling for immediate stoppage of rice export which had triggered an artificial famine in the state.”

“Thus, every year, we observe December 12 as ‘Nupi Lal Numit’ as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the women of Manipur. Today, our womenfolk continue to not only play a vital and active role in social issues but they are also leading from the forefront in every possible field including arts and culture, sports, public administration, medicine and entrepreneurship, among others.”

“Kunjarani Devi, Mary Kom, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu, Linthoi Chanambam are a few of our sportswomen who have shone bright in the international stage and demonstrated the courage and strength of our women…,” the chief minister said.
