Barak Festival begins

Imphal: The 3rd edition of state level Barak Festival has begun on Tuesday at Sanyi Dahrii Sports Complex, Khabung Karong in Senapati district with the motto “Save Mother Earth” and on the theme “Celebrating Endowment”.
Traditional fire making competition and dances from different cultural troupe were witnessed on the opening occasion. Various stalls including government departmental stalls displayed their works and schemes.
Th. Biswajit Singh, minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Power, Agriculture, Science and Technology stated that Barak River must be well preserved and maintained as it also provides sustainable activities for human being, flora and fauna present nearby. He said the importance of Barak must also be propagated through ecotourism.
To improve the environmental condition of the state, he said various programme like tree plantations, river cleaning in Imphal area and other places have been taken up. Environment department is taking various steps in identifying and preserving water catchment area in the state.
He informed the public that the state government has recently passed an order to ban of using plastics.
Govindas Konthoujam, minister for PWD, Youth Affairs and Sports stated that human civilization start with river. It is also the responsibility of everyone to maintain with proper care, he added. He also assured to complete the incomplete stadium of the venue at the earliest.
Barak Rock Concert was scheduled in the evening, to be performed by various bands and artistes.
