Bomb blast at fish godown


Imphal: One bomb blast occurred at the fish godown at Khongman Zone I on Monday; no causality have been reported despite some damage occurred at the godown gate.

The fish godown belonged to one Aribam Sashikumar alias Bung, son of late A. Chiteshor Sharma of Khongman Zone I, Imphal East.

Decrying the blast in the residential area, locals of the area including Meira Paibies (traditional women activists) staged a sit-in at the gate of the fish godown on Tuesday.

Aribam Sapana, a protestor, said the locals of the Khongman Zone I strongly condemn the bomb attack in the congested residential area. Any misunderstanding, if there is, could be solved on a negotiating table peacefully. What is the benefit of bomb attack in the congested residential area, who is going to take the responsibility if any innocent person was injured or any unwanted incident occurred during the blast? She questioned.

Sashikumar reportedly runs two fish centres one at Khongman Zone I where the blast was occurred and another at Ngari Gali, Thangal Bazar, Imphal.

An IED bomb was also found planted last year at same fish godown in November, which however, was not exploded.

It is told that some underground outfit had made extortion demand to the owner of the fish godown.

Till the filing of this report no outfit or any group has claimed the responsibility of the blast.
