Protest staged against extortion threat at Imphal


Imphal: Residents of Majorkhul on Friday staged a protest rally at Majorkhul, Imphal near Manipur Press Club decrying against firing at JK TVS showroom at Majorkhul, Imphal on Thursday.

The incident took place at around 5.10 pm on Tuesday. On CCTV footage it was seen that two unknown miscreants came in a blue colour Jupiter (two wheeler scooter) and shot two rounds at the showroom.

It is reported that an outfit made monetary demand from the showroom earlier.

During the incident, some parts of the glass pane of the showroom were damaged. However, no casualty was reported. In connection with the incident, a case was registered at City Police station on the same day.

President of Kabui Mother’s Association, Atonpi Kamei told reporters that the locals of the area strongly condemn the incident of firing in residential area. She said with the coming of Gaan Ngai festival, gathering has started for the preparation of the festival.

She appealed not to repeat such act as any sort of misunderstanding could be solved.

“Stop Violence and allow Peace and harmony to flourist”; “We Condemned shooting in Residential Area”; and “We Condemned firing of Pistol in Crowed area”, were among other slogans in the protest.
