Cop shoots woman to death, mob set ablaze police station


Imphal: A mob set ablaze an old office building of Pallel police station after a woman was allegedly shot by a personnel of Manipur Police Telecom Organisation (MPTO) posted at Pallel Police station, Kakching district on Friday night.

On Friday at around 10 pm the MPTO personnel named as one Khongkham Birjit Singh allegedly shot one Moirangthem Jemi Devi, 36, wife of M Kiran of Pallel Mamang Leikai.

The reason of the crime is yet to be ascertained.

It is reported that the gun used during the crime was not his service gun but his own license gun.

The mob erupted and set on fire the old office building of Pallel Police station. To control the mob, police also fired several tear gas shell, mock bombs and live rounds.

In connection with the incident a Joint Action Committee was formed. It demanded to nab the accused person within 24 hours and to provide ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the victim family.

Kakcking district police said the accused person has been arrested and taken into police custody.
