Manipur to witness first Emoinu fish fest

Imphal: Manipur government on Tuesday announced to held first Emoinu Fish Festival on January 3 in connection with Emoinu festival that falls on January 3, 2023 at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal East.
Emoinu, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, is worshipped on the 12th day of Wakching month of Manipuri lunar calendar.
Silver fish, vegetables and fruits are offered to the deity and seeks blessings at every household of the Meetei/Meitei community.
The objective of the festival is to facilitate fishes for religious offerings while promoting the fisheries sector for sustainable growth and development. The fish festival will also serve as a “One Stop Solution” to the citizens for Emoinu festival where fresh vegetables, fruits, fishes, etc. will be available with the participation of Agriculture and Allied departments and other private firms, a notification by the state Directorate of Fisheries said.
It said the farmers should sell their fish at the rate fixed by the department, the department will bear transportation charges for the participating fish farmers, the stalls shall be provided free of cost by the organizing department, the farmer should bring their fish products from 9 am to 11 am inside the festival premises.
Interested farmers have to contact their respective district fishery officers or the directorate at Lamphelpat on or before Thursday during office hour.
