Poppy cultivation of 15 acres destroyed


Imphal: As state authorities continued its drive against illicit drugs and poppy cultivation, poppy plantation in more than 15 acres of land were destroyed at D. Lhangjol village, Churachandpur district on Thursday.

Churachandpur district administration with the active supervision and physical presence of deputy commissioner Sharath Arroju along with police and state security forces destroyed the poppy plantation in the area near D. Lhangjol village along Sugnu Churachandpur road.

The team found many illegal materials used for the plantation of poppy cultivations during the drive.

After the destruction drive, the Sharath Arroju warned that legal actions will be initiated against defaulting village chiefs and the concerned poppy cultivators.

The district administration strives to bring about a drug free atmosphere in the district and will continue the drive against drugs in the days to come, he said.

Thienlaljoy Gangte, ADC, Lalringum Pulamte, deputy commandant, 1st IRB, Deshorjit, additional SP and other subordinate staff joined the drive.
