Local bodies election in February and March


Imphal: First state Cabinet meeting of 2023 decided to conduct urban and rural local body elections in the first week of March and April respectively and Autonomous District Council elections is also likely to conduct during the same period.

Information and public relation minister Sapam Ranjan told reporters at his residence here on Tuesday that the first state Cabinet meeting of 2023 was conducted on Monday late evening at state cabinet hall of CM’s secretariat, Babupara, Imphal.

The minister said ADC election is to be conducted after completion of delimitation process, which is likely to be completed during the month of February and March.

He said till the local body election is conducted, concerned district commissioner will be taking the charge for administrative works.

He said the state Cabinet has decided to start 3rd session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 2. However, the number of sitting for the session will be decided later by Business advisory committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The Cabinet meeting took the decision for-engagement of some administrative officers after considering their exemplary performance for a period of next 1 year. The administrative officers included joint secretary revenue, Y Rajen; chief engineer, S Romendro; joint secretary (home); chief engineer, MOBEDS and retired chief engineer (power), H Santikumar will be reengaged as chief engineer (power) on contractual basis from January 1 to February 28 this year and after that he will be re-engaged as managing director of MSPDCL from March 1 to December 31, said IPR minister.

The Cabinet also took a decision for recruitment of various contractual post in various government departments. In different categories 62 post will be recruited in Manipur Aids Control Society; 97 different post in paediatric care centre, RIMS; 90 post as section officer in Public Works Department; 18 different post for relief and disaster management department; 148 different post for PHED; 10 driver on daily wages for GAD; 67 different post for forensic science department, said Ranjan.

It was also approved to hold viva voce for the recruitment of head constable, constable and follower in which the recruitment has already started, he added.

The meeting also approved to launch Chief Minister Entrepreneurship Support Schemer to support the young entrepreneurs with 30 per cent government subsidy.

Ranjan said the scheme will provide support to the young entrepreneurs who want to start business in coaching class, restaurant, automobile workshop, manufacture of paper bags and others.

The Cabinet also approved for recruitment of 22 college principals and creation of principal for Jiribam College through Manipur Public Service Commission.
