Poppy plants of 55 acres destroyed

Imphal: A  ombined team of Imphal East district police assisted by NAB; Forest department; BSF along with executive magistrate destroyed poppy plants on 55 acres of land during two days Poppy destruction drive in Kamu Ching, Bongyang Hill range.

Police reported that on Monday the combined team destroyed about 26 acres of poppy plants. On Tuesday in continuation of the drive the same combined team which was stationed at Maphou dam police station destroyed another 29 acres of poppy plants at the same hill range.

A regular case has been registered for further investigation.  The total poppy cultivation destroyed on Monday and Tuesday was on 55 acres, the district police Imphal East will also continue to survey probable  adjoining areas  and effort will be made to arrest illegal poppy cultivators, police said.
