11 UG cadres surrender


Imphal: A total of 11 UG cadres of different groups surrendered to Jwalamukhi Batallion of Assam Rifles at Motbung Post with arms, explosives and other war like stores, on Thursday.

A team of one officer, one JCO 10 other ranks of COB Kangkokpi had previously rescued four Manipuri civilians on August 10, 2022 who were kept as hostages by KNF-N cadres, in the follow up operations while interacting with the rescued civilians it was known that cousin of one of the civilian had joined some UG gp and went across few years back and now he wanted to come back to his hometown but somehow he has got struck in Myanmar, the Assam Rifles said.

Jwalamukhi Batallion started to build on the input and a team of one officer, one JCO and 10 other ranks of COB Motbung was formed so that necessary help can be provided to the cadres to come across.

The cadre’s family was contacted and were taken into confidence, his family members assured him that nothing will happen if he comes across and surrender.

The Company Commander was able to convince them to give up the arms and lead a peaceful and happy life. Through these cadres, the Jwalamukhi Batallion team contacted families of many other UG cadres convincing them to ask their wards to surrender and also helped some of them to come across.

On Thursday negating the Politico-Social reservations and genuine fear in the minds of the cadres the team was able to convince the cadres and was able to make the cadres surrender, the Assam Rifles said.

After initial questioning the cadres were given free medical health check-up and food and were handed over to 7 Manipur Rifles along with weapons and war like stores for further investigation and followup actions, it added.
