Man who hails Poppy cultivation arrested

Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested a person on Monday for passing a comment on a Facebook post having a dual photo of a woman posing among the Poppy flowers.

The arrested person was Sam Lolson Gangte, 19, son of late Sonpi Gangte of Khousabung Moirang Mathak, Bishnupur district.

The photo went viral in social media and Sam which Facebook account name as ‘Ily Boo’ passed a comment “..meitei people jealous Becoz kuki people earning money on poppy.. hey kuki people let’s unity and fight for poppy.. this flowers..”

Chief minister N. Biren Singh writes on his Facebook wall “We have already warned the people not to support poppy planters, drug smugglers, forest destroyers and also corruption. We have started taking stringent action against those involved.”

Police reported that Sam was detained on Saturday and was handed over to Imphal Police station at around 12.30 pm on Monday. A case has been registered at Imphal Police station.
