Union minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand reviews construction of border fence at Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal: Union minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand visited the field formations and forward company operating bases of Assam Rifles along Indo-Myanmar Border at Moreh and Permanent Vehicle Check Post at Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district in Manipur on Monday.

During his visit, the minister was briefed in detail by the various commanders on ground about the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness. He also reviewed the ongoing construction work of border fence at the Indo-Myanmar Border.

The minister expressed his satisfaction on the security measures and operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles. The Union MoS for Home said the Assam Rifles during its glorious history has contributed significantly to the maintenance of peace and harmony in the insurgency affected areas of the North East and has performed exemplary work in preventing cross border smuggling and drug trafficking.

He also interacted with the Assam Rifles troops deployed along Indo-Myanmar border. He appreciated the untiring efforts of the troops in difficult and inhospitable conditions and commended them for carrying out people friendly operations. He said that all ranks of Assam Rifles have to face many difficulties for the security of the country, therefore their welfare is paramount for the government.

The minister also complimented various Civic Action Programmes such as medical camps, National Integration Tours, women empowerment and other activities run by Assam Rifles for local citizens which provide a foundation for the social upliftment of the North East region.
