34th Driver’s Day on Saturday

Imphal: To commemorate the drivers who passed away during their duty, All Manipur Road Transport Driver’s and Motor Worker’s Union (AMRTDMWU) has set to observe ‘34th drivers day, 2023’ on Saturday.
The programme will be organised by the Joint Co-ordinating Committee 34th Drivers Day Observation, 2023.
Secretary general of AMRTDMWU, Maimom Anil on Wednesday told reporters at its head office located at MG Avenue, here that the 34th Driver’s Day, 2023 will be observed at Intern State Bus Terminal, Khuman Lampak, Imphal from 10 am.
He said the day has been observing as Driver’s Day after the incident occurred at Nagaland where one truck driver and its assistant driver were brutally killed by unknown miscreants in 1990. “Since then a total of 334 highway transporters had been killed in different occasions,” he added.
He said transport drivers are delivering their service day and night in order to bring in essential commodities to Manipur. He appealed the public to respect the transporters.
Anil appealed not to organise music concert, and any of its kind on the day and drivers should observe the day by steering down.
