Imphal: An unknown armed miscreant has robbed a passenger vehicle (Winger) driver while plying along Imphal-Dimapur road, from the opposite of Network parking, Dimapur, Nagaland on Friday night.
The name of the Winger driver is Menao from Thoubal and he has been plying passenger service along Imphal-Dimapur.
General secretary of All Manipur Inter State, State Winger and Cruiser Drivers and Owner’s Union, Thiyam Standar told reporters here in Imphal that the incident was occurred at around 10.30 pm on Friday.
He reported that when Menao was parking his vehicle opposite to Network parking, Dimapur alone, one unknown miscreant seems to be drunk asked him to open the vehicle window. The unknown person first asked Menao that he had betel nut in his vehicle and he wanted to check his vehicle. Later, the miscreant took out a pistol and robbed money.
He appealed the drivers who are delivering their service by maintaining proper discipline and not to drive their vehicle when drunk.
A counselling for highway drivers are necessary periodically, he said and added that similar incident had occurred earlier to the winger drivers at Dimapur.
He appealed the concerned authority to take necessary steps so that Winger drivers can park their vehicle at MST, Dimapur. He said there is MST, Dimapur where transporters from Manipur can park their vehicle, but some locals of the area are occupying the area for their personal purpose. When the drivers tried to park their vehicle in the parking area there are reportedly threatened by the locals of the area, he added.
