Manipur government conducts test for Drones to destroy Poppy plantation


Imphal: Flight test for drones, which can spray herbicides to destroy Poppy plantations, was done at chief minister N. Biren Singh’s official residence, here on Saturday.

“Flight tests and demonstration of drones were successfully carried out on the lawn of my official residence today. These drones capable of spraying herbicides have been procured to intensify the state government’s War on Drugs campaign,” Biren writes on his Facebook wall.

The chief minister urged the people to extend more support and cooperation in the government’s efforts to completely root out the drug menace from the state.

“The state government has procured drones which can spray herbicides to destroy poppy plantations. Aerial surveys are also being carried out to identify the areas where poppy cultivations are still carried out,” Biren posted earlier.

The drones will be deployed soon for action, and those involved in the plantation will not be spared, the chief minister said.
