Armed miscreants threaten MPP working president

Imphal: Unknown armed miscreants shot two rounds at the residential courtyard of Ningombam Ojit Meitei, working president of Manipur People’s Party (MPP) located at Bashikhong PHC road, Imphal East at on Saturday evening.
The incident was immediately informed to Irilbung police through mobile phone by the Pradhan of Bashikhong Gram Panchayat, Binolata.
Police said she reported that around six unknown persons came in an scooter (Honda Activa) and Yamaha Bike and enquired whereabout of Ojit, 62. She also reported that Ojit is an advocate by profession.
Binolata, who is the sister-in-law of Ojit, informed the police that she had encountered the unknown persons at the courtyard and forced the family members to produce Ojit. The unknown persons told family members to inform Ojit to relieve from the post of president, MPP within 2-3 days. One of the unknown persons fired two rounds at the courtyard and fled away, police reported.
The miscreants revealed themselves to the family members as members of an underground outfit. The unknown persons also came on Thursday and Friday at the same timing.
During the incident no casualties have been reported. As per report from family members, two of them held small arms. A case has been registered at Irilbung police station, police said.
Ojit Meitei told reporters at the conference hall of the party office, here on Sunday that the incident was very unfortunate.
He said he joined the party trying to solve the issues of the state including border issue, ILP and others. For MPP president election which falls on January 28, he had collected his nomination paper on Saturday, he added.
During the incident he was not at his residence and he was informed by his family members about the incident, said Ojit.
He appealed the armed unknown persons to disclose themselves and the reason for threatening by firing at his residence.
He said, for the election, there are there three candidates including him, the two other candidates are Ch. Shamjai who is the present interim president of the party and Bikram from Lamlai Assembly Constituency.
