3 militants nabbed ahead of Republic Day


Imphal: Manipur police have arrested three cadres of PREPAK (Pro) outfit from different parts of the state during Republic Day preparatory security measures on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were identified as one Oinam Iboyaima Singh alias Boyai, 45, son of late O. Keshore Singh of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai; Huidrom Priyokumar Singh alias Jim, 38, son of late H. Nimai Singh of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai and Tangtangba Angnaikham Maring alias Taibanganba alias Athoi, 29, son of Tangtanga Komang Maring of Langol Khunou, Machi sub-division, Chandel district.

Police reported that Iboyaima and Priyokumar were both from Imphal West district and arrested from their residences at 6.40 am and 7.30 am respectively while Tangtangba was arrested at around 10.30 am from near Old Pallel Police Station, Kakching district.

One 0.32 pistol with magazine; three mobile handsets; two wallet, two aadhaar cards; one driving license; one voter card; one camouflage bag; a sum of Rs 1, 210 in cash and one Yamaha FZ-S motorcycle were seized from their possession.

The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Singjamei Police station for further necessary legal action.

District commando Imphal West conducted cordon and search operation at Naga Nullah area in the western side of Khwairamband Ima Market covering Samu Makhong (Elephant Statue); Uripok Chakri Kom area; Ngari Galli and Ima Keithel area from 8.20 and to 8.50 am.

During the police action around 135 individuals were verified from which 14 individuals were detained and handed over to City police station for further verification.

The same team also conducted house to house search operation at Keishamthong Laishom Leirak and Moirang Ningthou Leirak, Imphal West from 3.30 pm to 5 pm.

During the operation around 80 houses were searched in which 110 individuals were verified however no one was picked up for further verification.
