BJP convenor shot dead, 2 arrested


Imphal: Convenor of Ex-Servicemen Cell of the BJP Manipur Pradesh, Laishram Rameshwor Singh was allegedly shot dead by two unknown persons at his Thoubal Kshetri Leikai residence in Thoubal district on Monday, both the accused person have been arrested.

Superintendent of police, Thoubal district, Jogeshchandra Haobijam told reporters at his office on Monday that the two unidentified person came in a white colour XUV 300 and allegedly shot the state BJP convenor in front of his residence at around 11 am.

It is reported that the unknown persons shot Rameshwor while one of the bullets hit his chest.

On spot investigation one empty case of 0.32 bullet was recovered. Police are hunting to arrest the main accuse is continuing, he added.

The driver Naorem Ricky Pointing Singh alias Amu, 24, son of N. Kesho of Keinou Thongkha Maning Leikai, Bishnupur district presently staying at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Imphal West, was arrested soon after the incident. He disclosed that the main accused was Ayekpam Keshorjit, 46, son of late A. Kunjo of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Imphal West.

The main accused was at large, Jogeshchandra said and appealed to the relatives or nearones to cooperate with police in the investigation.

Later, the main accused person Ayekpam Keshorjit was arrested from Commando complex, Imphal West as he surrendered before inspector P. Achouba Meitei, OC, Commando Imphal West. The license gun .32 pistol, two magazines and nine.32 bullets were seized from him. One mobile handset Samsung A70 belonging to the accused person was also seized from him.

Rameshwor succumbed to bullet injury at Raj Medicity, Imphal and the body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post moterm and other legal formalities.

“Deeply pained by the sudden demise of Ex-Servicemen, Shri NK L Rameshwar who was killed by armed assailants at his residence in Thoubal today,” chief minister N. Biren Singh posted on his facebook wall.

“I condemn such killings in the strongest terms, and those who committed the barbaric and cowardly act will not be spared.

Shri NK L Rameshwar was a Founding member of AFESAM and also Convenor of the Ex-Servicemen Cell of the State BJP Unit. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family and share their loss and pain.”

State BJP also expressed condolence on the death of convenor of ex-servicemen cell, BJP Manipur Pradesh Rameshwor at its facebook page.
