Village chief nabbed, 1 acre Poppy cultivation destroyed

Imphal: The chief of Nungthut village, Paojahen Singson alias Hena, 46, was apprehended on Saturday with destruction of poppy cultivation in about one acre of land at Nungthut village Hill Range, which is about 23 kms South from Nungba police station.

A joint team of Nungba police station, Noney Forest Division, SDO Nungba, 39 AR (COB Nungba) Rongmei Naga Students Organization Manipur(RNSOM) and Rongmei Riders under the supervision of SP, Noney conducted a drive for destruction of poppy plants at Nungthut village Hill Range and poppy plantation of about one acre was completely destroyed.

The chief minister thanked everyone for the fight against drug.

On this day, a team of SGT-PS arrested one individual Ginkhanpau, 60, Newlamka at his residence. He revealed the police that he is the caretaker of the land where poppy was cultivated. He also revealed that he collected some amount of money to each of the poppy cultivator.
