Brown Sugar worth Rs 6.88 crore recovered, 1 apprehended

Imphal: Brown Sugar worth Rs 6.88 crore were recovered from two areas of Tengnoupal district in Manipur and apprehended one drug trafficker in two consecutive days.

​Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled Cross border smuggling of Brown Sugar at Village Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal on Saturday.

​Based on specific Input, a team was launched in village Khudengthabi to prevent smuggling of contraband items. During the operation, 525 grams of Brown Sugar drug in 12 packets was recovered.  The seized Narcotics drugs were assessed to be worth Rs 1.05 crores, the Assam Rifles said on Monday.

​The recovered narcotic drugs were handed over to Moreh Police for further legal proceedings, it added.

On Friday, ​Modi Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one individual with 2.918 kg Brown Sugar worth Rs 5.83 crore.

​Based on specific input, troops of Modi Battalion along with team of Tengnoupal Police station launched a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Larong Khunao village, Tengnoupal district, which led to the seizure of 2.918 Kg of brown sugar in 70 soap cases and apprehension of one person. The contraband was hidden in the fuel tank of an Eeco car.

​The apprehended individual along with the Brown Sugar and the vehicle were handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further legal proceedings, the Assam Rifles said.
