3 persons involved in rioting against police on anti-drug operation apprehended from Imphal airport

Imphal: A team of Airport police station and CISF on Sunday nabbed three person who were involved in rioting by pelting stone towards police team while entering to Khetrigao area in Imphal East for operation against illegal drug smugglers on January 15 evening.

The three persons were Abas, 22, son of Md. Munish Khan of Kshetrigao Makha Leikai; Md. Rahaman, 34, son of Md. Rahmad of the same village; and Tajiur Rahman, 22, son of Tahibur Rahman of Keikhu Awang Leikai.

They were about to travel to Kolkata by Air Asia flight, a police report said.

A large number of the police team went to carry out the operation at the house of one Md Abit Khan, 28, at Kshetrigao. The local people obstructed the team from launching its operation. Police hurled tear gas shells to disperse the rioting mob. The police had been in operation for the last three days, and had arrested three suspected drug peddlers in the area ahead of the Kshetrigao incident.

Earlier on January 13 a team of police was attacked by a mob injuring three cops and damaged two police vehicles during the operation.

At least five persons suspected to be involved in attacking police during the drug raid at Kshetrigao Yumkhaibam Leirak were arrested earlier.
