Missing VDF personnel found dead

Imphal: The VDF personnel Ningombam Premananda who went missing on the intervening night of January 21-22 during a poppy destruction drive in Indo-Myanmar border Chandel district was reportedly found dead at M.Lebanon village on Friday.

The state authority has been searching for Premananda who went missing at Urantop village under the jurisdiction of Chakpikarong police station.

The joint  action committee, formed in connection with the missing of Premananda, had imposed an indefinite bandh along NH-102 at Thoubal area since the midnight of January 31. It was however lifted for some time while a search by combined forces was being carried out.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday told the House during Assembly sitting that the government is trying its best level to find the missing VDF personnel who was on duty in poppy destruction. He said on January 21 an Inquiry Committee has been constituted. Manipur Police personnels and Assam Rifles had been deployed to trace the missing VDF personnel. Myanmar authorities have been apprised about the missing personnel.
