Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling of drugs

Imphal: ​Modi Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered narcotics from general area T Bongmol, Tengnoupal district on February 4.

A mobile check post at Temporary Operating Base Yangoubong was established at General Area T Bongmol during night of February 3 based on specific input about move of contrabands.

A search of the surrounding area was carried out in anticipation of presence of smugglers. While on their search, the troops discovered a white bag hidden in the thick foliage on side of the road leading to Parlon. The bag contained 31 soap cases with suspected Brown Sugar weighing 342 gm worth Rs 68,40,000, the Assam Rifles said on Tuesday.

​The recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further investigation, it added.
