Drug trafficker nabbed with 6 kg Opium

Imphal: In continuation of N. Biren Singh led Manipur government’s War on Drugs, teams of Churachandpur district police and Sangaikot police station nabbed a drug trafficker with 6.167 kg of Opium from Khuangkhai side towards Sangaikot area, on Wednesday.

The person was apprehended with the drug acting on ‘a reliable information was received that some contraband drugs are being transported from Khuangkhai side towards Sangaikot area’.

The police rushed to Jangmun village under Sangaikot sub-division and conducted frisking and checking of all vehicles coming towards Sangaikot area.

On checking one passenger vehicle Tata DI Pick up, one unknown person suspected to be in possession of contraband substances was detained and on thorough checking, suspected opium concealed in a black bag covered in a black plastic was detected from his possession.

The person identified himself as Holngam Haokip, 50, son of Holkholun Haokip of Govajang village, Sangaikot sub-division, Churachandpur.

He stated that he collected the suspected opium from one Kappu, a Myanmar national at the border and he Holngam) was hired for transporting the illicit drug.

On weighing by using weighing scale at the spot, the suspected opium was found to weigh 6.167 kg, a police report said.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation, the police report said.
