Smuggler arrested with 40 gold biscuits in Manipur

Imphal: Officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal on Tuesday nabbed a smuggler with 40 gold biscuits near Thamnapokpi in Chandel district, along the Indo-Myanmar road.
The smuggler was identified as Md. Umar Farauqe, 32, son of Nure, Porompat Muslim Road No.2, Porompat sub-division, Imphal East.
He was carrying the gold concealed inside a white Bolero Pick up truck having registration number MN06LA9593.
The Customs officers took the vehicle along with him to Customs office located at Sangakpham for thorough checking. The gold biscuits wrapped in adhesive tape were found from the vehicle. The weight of the recovered gold biscuits was found to be 6.640 kg.
The total value of the seized gold biscuits and the vehicle was estimated at Rs 3,83,90,160. The value of the seized gold was Rs.3,81,40,160. Md. Umar Farauqe was arrested under Section 104 of Customs Act,1962. A case has been booked.
Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is going on, deputy commissioner Customs Division Imphal, Keerthishri S said in a statement released on Wednesday.
