Anti corruption cell arrests two forgers

Imphal: Anti Corruption Cell, Thoubal on Wednesday arrested two persons who were alleged of forging documents to get compensation of over Rs 1.3 lakh for a plot of land which belongs to another person.

The two arrested persons were Irom Tomba Singh, 64, of Thoubal Achouba Keithel Makha and Moirangthem Ningthembi Singh, 62, of Heirok Part-I Heitupokpi.

The plot measuring 0.0101 hectare situated in 28-Thoubal Achouba actually belongs to one Ningthoujam Ranjit of Khanga-bok Part-II Khullakpam Leikai.

The plot was sold to Ranjit by Irom Tomba. It was not affected by the NH-102 expansion work. They had allegedly doctored documents to claim compensation.

The forged documents were submitted by Ningthembi, the then in-charge AS&SO-VII (retired) in collusion with Tomba. Tomba received around Rs 1,30,000 as compensation in two instalments during the year 2020-2021. They allegedly shared the compensation amount.

They were arrested following a complaint filed with the Thoubal police station. They were later produced before the court and taken to custody till February 18.
