Hill Area Committee appeals to stop, destroy poppy plantation

Imphal: Hill Area Committee (HAC), Manipur Legislative Assembly has appealed to all chiefs, khunbus, headmen, Khullakpas, landowners, civil societies, church associations and unions and others in the hill areas of Manipur to wholeheartedly support the government’s initiatives on ‘War on Drugs’
The appeal was made during a meeting held on Thursday at Manipur Legislative Assembly, here. It was chaired by HAC chairman Dinganglung Gangmei.
The meeting resolution says, “The committee fully endorsed the govenrment’s ‘War on Drugs’ mission and appeal to all chiefs, khunbus, headmen, khullakpas, landowners, civil societies, church associations/unions and others in the hill areas of Manipur to wholeheartedly support the government’s initiatives on ‘War on Drugs’. The committee further appeals to all the concerned to stop the cultivation and destroy poppy plantation and other illegal drugs to save the future generation of Manipur.”
As per response to chief minister N. Biren Singh’s appeal to support ‘War on Drugs’ and against cultivation of illegal poppy plantation, representatives from 33 communities in Manipur took pledge on February 25, 2021 to end poppy cultivation under the banner “All Communities Convention for a pledge against illegal poppy plantation” at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre, Palace Compound.
The state authority has been on the mission of destroying poppy cultivation. Village chiefs and other people involved in poppy cultivation have been arrested.
