More Poppy cultivation destroyed


Imphal: In continuation of Manipur government’s drive against Poppy cultivation, around 15 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed by a combined team under the supervision of deputy commissioner,  Kamjong and superintendent of police, Kamjong, in Marou village , Phungyar sub-division of Kamjong district.

While speaking to chief and village authority about the drive, the chief briefed that poppy plantation in Marou village has been banned by the village since two years back and he also reiterated that no new plantation has been undertaken but the seeds that fell from the already planted years back sprouted and that has led to the regrowth of poppy plants in his village.

Further, the village authority requested for training farmers for alternative crops with awareness camp for pest and disease management of alternative crops.
