Seminar on ‘Contemporary Manipuri Culture and Nationalism’ held

Imphal: A one-day seminar on “Contemporary Manipuri Culture and Nationalism” was organised by Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), Manipur at Manipur Press Club, here on Sunday.
Time has come to refine the present contemporary Manipuri culture as it is deteriorating while people are living in the pride that Manipuri Culture is identifying the state in international arena, Arts and Culture director Lourembam Kishworjit Singh said.
Manipur Culture is deteriorating as compared to past. The present culture is need to be refined in order to preserve the rich culture of the state, he added.
Discussion on certain aspect of each community towards Manipuri culture is needed. Moreover, the contribution of youths towards the present culture also need to be discussed, he said.
Similar seminars need to be organised frequently in order to discuss how contemporary Manipur culture is defined.
President of HERICOUN, Longjam Ratankumar said in the seminar the scenario of the past and present Manipuri culture will be discussed. He said in the past the Manipuri culture gave much influence to nationalism including that to economic power.
The seminar also discussed how the contemporary Manipuri culture influences on nationalism or not, he added.
President of Women’s Association For Socio-Economic Development (WASDEV), RK Tharaksana also attend the function as guest of honour.
