MNPF cadre involved in several ambushes on security forces arrested

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested one active Manipur Naga People Front (MNPF), a banned organisation on Wednesday from Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East.

The arrested person was identified as Momo Jamir, 36, son of late Bendang Tushi of Chingmeirong East, Imphal East.

He was nabbed by a combined team of 4th Assam Rifles and Special Commando unit, Khabeisoi during frisking and checking following an information of presence of one suspected MNPF member at Yaingangpokpi.

Momo Jamir was coming in one four wheeler Tata Magic vehicle and detained for verification. He disclosed himself as an active cadre MNPF, who was allegedly involved in several ambushes. He was arrested from Yaingangpokpi Magic Parking, a police report said.

He is an active cadre of MNPF allegedly involved in ambushes at Khongtai in Chandel district on July 29, 2020 and at Behiang in churachandpur district . He revealed that he joined the outfit in 2015 through one late Makanmi of MNPF and got basic military training for three months under army number 0151 at Myanmar Thunbul ( 252 Mobile Bn). He is presently holding the rank of self-styled sergeant major and working under the command one self-styled major, Somo of the same outfit, it added.

He further disclosed that he was involved in several ambushes on the central security forces, mainly on the Asssam Rifles. He was also involved in Khongtai, Chandel District ambush that took place on july 29,2020 and in the ambush on a convoy of 46 AR on November 13, 2021 at S Sehken village under Singhat sub-division in Churachandpur district that resulted in the killing of five Assam Rifles personnel, including the commanding officer, his wife and their minor son, while four soldiers were left injured.

The accused have been handed over to NIA Imphal Branch superintendent, Lamphel, Imphal West district.
