‘Manipur classical dance is superior to others’

Imphal: Manipur classical dance is superior to other forms of dances in the nation, said director of Arts and Culture Manipur L. Kishworjit on the opening day of 3-day Golden Jubilee celebration of Harimati Dance and Music Centre organised at the centre, Porompat, Imphal East on Friday.
Kishworjit said there is huge difference between the classical dance of outside Manipur and the classical dance that has been demonstrating in the state. The classical dance of outside the state is similar with entertainment but classical dance of Manipur shows the ritual meaning of God.
Harimati has been taking various initiatives by promoting traditional dance, thang-ta and others, he said and appreciated the initiatives taken by the Harimati institution for the promotion of Manipuri arts and culture since decades.
After witnessing the initiatives of Haramati dance and music centre on promotion and preservation of Manipuri arts and culture, necessary assistance will be provided to the centre, said Kishworjit.
President of the art and music centre Naorem Maishyam Singh said since the establishment of the centre, many artiste in various art form have been produced. The artistes of the center had already demonstrated ‘Raas leela’ and bele dances of Manipuri arts and culture, he added.
Secretary of the centre Naorem Harimati Devi said the centre was established in 1972. Since its establishment, it has been demonstrating many dramas including bele in promotion of the Manipuri arts and culture.
In connection with the Golden Jubilee celebration, “Maharani Leela” was demonstrated by the artistes of the centre.
A souvenir “Custom of Manipuri Dance Volume Number 1” was released by Kishworjit.
