Demands for grants of Rs 30,72,75,31,000 passed

Imphal: The ongoing 3rd session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly passed a total sum of Rs 30,72,75,31,000 as grants for eight different departments on Wednesday.

The demands were moved on the assembly floor by the Leader of the House, N. Biren Singh during ‘consideration on discussion and voting on demands for grants’.

The demands included Land Revenue, Stamp and registration and District Administration with a sum of Rs 163,76,93,000; Finance Department with a sum of Rs 2557,67,16,000; Textile, commerce and industries with a sum of Rs 166,64,60,000; Youth Affairs and Sports Department with a sum of Rs 128,02,64,000; State Excise with a sum of Rs 20,56,00,000; Sales Tax, other Taxes/duties on Commodities and Services with a sum of Rs 11,16,98,000; stationary and Printing with a sum of Rs 7,44,39,000 and State Academy of Training with a sum of Rs 17,46,61,000.

Among the seven demands moved on the assembly floor, 4 opposition MLAs raised motion for disapproval of policy cuts on demand number 4, Land Revenue, Stamps and Registration and District Administration; demand number 5, Finance Department; demand number 21, Textiles, Commerce and Industries and demand number 25, Youth Affairs and Sports department.

After deliberation on the policy cut motion raised by the opposition MLAs, the concerned ministers clarified on the policy cut motions. Later the opposition MLAs withdrew their respective motion for disapproval of policy cuts and the House passed the demands unanimously.

The Assembly also passed 5 government bills moved on the assembly floor by 3 ministers including Leader of the House on the same day.

The government bills included “The Manipur Properties and Open Places (Prevention of Defacement and Disfigurement) Bill, 2023” (Bill No. I of 2023)”; “The Kaina Temple Board Bill, 2023 (Bill Number 4 of 2023); “The Manipur Value Added Tax (Third amendment) Bill, 2023 (Bill Number 5 of 2023) were moved on the assembly by Leader of the House, N Biren Singh for consideration.

“The Manipur Town and Country Planning (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2023” (Bill Number 7 of 2023) and “The Dhanamanjuri University (Amendment) Bill, 2023” (Bill Number 6 of 2023) were moved on the assembly floor by MAHUD minister, Yumnam Khemchand and education minister Th. Basanta Kumar Singh respectively for consideration.
