Local body election to be conducted by April

Imphal: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Y. Khemchand Singh said the state government has decided to conduct local body election by April if found no legal complicacy.

Khemchand was informing the House clarifying the motion for disapproval of policy cut on Thursday in the 3rd session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The policy cut motion was raised by opposition MLAs K. Ranjit Singh and K. Meghachandra in the demand of Panchayat on account of delay of Panchayat Election.

Khemchand said in October last year the Zilla Parisads had already tendered their resignation after the state cabinet’s July 21 last year sitting decided to conduct local body election by April this year.

Chief minister N, Biren Singh supplementing the clarification informed that the state government was planning to conduct the local body elections that included ADC election, Rural Panchayat election and IMC election on different periods. The government has decided to conduct those elections by April if there is no legal conspiracy.
