Assam Rifles seizes contraband items

Imphal: Joupi Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered contraband (Areca Nuts) worth Rs 72 lakh from Khemdo – Joupi  road Junction of Chandel District on Friday.

On specific information, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was established by Joupi Battalion on 03 March 2023 at Khemdo-Joupi road junction which intercepted five vehicles carrying approximately 28,800 kg of Areca Nuts worth Rs 72 lakhspacked in 270 gunny bags. The party seized the contraband along with ten individuals and vehicles, the Assam Rifles said on Sunday.

The seized items along with the driver, co-drivers and vehicles were handed over to Pallel Customs office for further legal investigation, it added.
